Human Factors Continuation

Human Factors is a mandatory requirement for all EASA Part 145 approved organizations as outlined in EASA145.A.30 (e) National Authorities 10 Part Program.

This online training course will give the participant a recurrent review of Human Factors issues in the workplace. The course is intended to satisfy the mandatory requirement for all EASA Part 145 approved organizations. The training will provide the delegates with an update of Human Factors and is intended to improve understanding of the subject. The objective is to review and refresh the implications of error, the organization’s safety culture, its procedures and safety policy and methods of communication.

Learning Goals:

Upon completion of this advanced online training course, the students will know:

Module 1, Human Factors General:

  • The definition of Human Factors;
  • Why you need Human Factors Training;
  • What is meant by the Chain of Events;
  • What is meant by the SHELL-Model;
  • The definition of Murphy’s Law;
  • How many percent of the aircraft accidents is due to human factors.

Module 2, Human Performance, Limitations & Affecting Factors

  • The definition of Human Functioning;
  • What is meant by the limitations of the human being.
  • You know the importance of your own daily fitness and health;
  • You can name the three main groups of stress factors;
  • You can explain what danger is imminent when performing tasks that involve time pressure;
  • You can name the symptoms to which you can recognize fatigue;
  • You can explain why fatigue of the aircraft maintenance technician is a danger to aircraft, colleagues, and passengers;
  • You can describe what the consequences are of the use of alcohol, medicines, and drugs.

Module 3, Social Psychology:

  • You can mention opportunities that are related to the social context in which the aircraft maintenance technician works;
  • You can explain how the organization and the company culture influence behavior, attitude and the safety within the company;
  • You can explain that the attitude, conviction and conduct of all individual employees influence the company culture;
  • You can explain that there is a tension between the individual and the team;
  • You can explain  “Peer Pressure”;
  • You can indicate the effect of (de)motivation on  human behavior;
  • You can name all items from “The Dirty Dozen”.

Module 4, Physical Environment:

  • Which negative influence noise can have in communication;
  • The importance of sufficient light when performing tasks;
  • What the physical limitations are when performing tasks under climatic and temperature extremes;
  • Which physical problems can occur with movement and vibration;
  • The dangers/limitations when performing tasks in confined spaces;
  • What a good work environment must meet with regard to layout, safety, and efficiency.

Module 5, Tasks & Communication:

  • You can explain the importance of breaks;
  • You can explain the importance of good planning;
  • You can explain why visual inspection is more than just good looking.
  • You can name the various communication forms;
  • You can explain why communication is more than the exchange of oral information;
  • You can name what needs to be communicated between teams during shift hand over;
  • You can name the importance of recording task status at shift ending;
  • You can explain in more detail how you can keep the relevant knowledge and spread it to everyone in the company.

Module 6, Human Error & Hazards in the workplace

  • You can name the types of errors in maintenance task;
  • You can explain the consequences of errors;
  • You can name the way mistakes can be avoided.
  • The risks of work and the work environment;
  • The responsibilities of maintenance technicians;
  • The responsibility of the maintenance organization;
  • How to act in an emergency situation.
